Khadi Mahotsav 2025: Empowering rural economy, entrepreneurship and indigenous crafts

The Uttar Pradesh government is consistently working to strengthen the rural economy, empower local entrepreneurship, and create new markets for traditional crafts and Khadi-based industries. In line with this vision, the 10-day Khadi Mahotsav 2025 is being organized from November 21 to November 30 at Central Sanskrit University, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

The event was inaugurated on Friday by Rakesh Sachan, Minister for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Khadi, Village Industries, Silk, and Handloom. The festival is not only creating opportunities for employment and self-employment but also providing a large-scale platform to showcase indigenous products.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several initiatives have been introduced to promote Khadi, village industries, handicrafts, and traditional arts. Thousands of youth have secured employment through initiatives like the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, the PM FME Scheme, and various state-level micro-enterprise policies.

The Khadi Mahotsav serves as a comprehensive showcase of these efforts, offering entrepreneurs opportunities for market expansion, technological advancement, and business growth.

The festival is revitalizing the rural economy by encouraging artisans, craftspeople, and weavers. The increasing demand for indigenous products is further strengthening the foundation of local industries while improving the financial stability of entrepreneurs.

Khadi Mahotsav 2025 stands as a testament to the state government’s ongoing commitment to nurturing traditional craftsmanship, rural industries, and employment generation, making them key pillars of Uttar Pradesh’s economic development.

More than 160 entrepreneurs and enterprises from various districts are participating in the event. Exhibits include intricately carved furniture from Saharanpur, carpets from Bhadohi, gamchhas and sadris from Amroha, rugs and towels from Sitapur, Banarasi silk sarees from Varanasi, amla products from Pratapgarh, Royal Honey clay art from Lucknow, Bikaneri papad, leather goods, and numerous other traditional products. This diverse range of exhibits highlights the rich artistic heritage and craftsmanship of Uttar Pradesh.

During the festival, selected entrepreneurs and beneficiaries will be honored, and state-level awards will be presented to outstanding performers.

Additionally, the government will distribute dona-making machines, popcorn machines, and honey boxes to five selected beneficiaries each. Four beneficiaries will receive electric potter’s wheels, and one beneficiary will be awarded a pug mill machine.

These tools and equipment will significantly boost small-scale industries in rural areas and create new avenues for self-employment. This initiative will inspire local youth to pursue entrepreneurship and contribute to employment generation across the region.
